Apartment renovation project
Intervention area approx. 170 m2 - Milan 2018
Located in the Porta Romana neighborhood, Casa MaR is a home characterized by spacious, bright rooms, where art and architecture coexist, creating a domestic space brimming with personality. The project emphasizes the living room as the home's central space, creating an open and structured space centered around artwork and custom furnishings.
The living area unites the living and dining areas in a seamless sequence, defined by a large, floor-to-ceiling bookcase that complements the space and enhances its depth. The large windows to the outside bring natural light and the greenery of the trees inside, establishing a constant connection between the interior and exterior.
The home's character stems from the encounter between a minimalist architectural foundation and a diverse selection of furnishings and objects. Sofas in dark tones, tables and chairs from different eras and styles, photographs, paintings, and small decorative elements create a layered whole, far removed from rigid minimalism. The bookcase becomes both a functional element and a compositional device, gathering books and objects and becoming a seamless backdrop for everyday life.
Light plays an important role in the perception of space: it enters through the large glass surfaces and flows through the living area, highlighting the variety of materials, colors, and textures that compose the space. The wooden parquet helps unify the spaces and introduces a warm note, balancing the neutrality of the walls and the deeper tones of the furnishings.
Rather than through a unified language, the home defines its identity through the layering of elements, memories, and personal presences. The result is a welcoming and lived-in domestic space, where architecture does not dominate objects but rather creates their framework, allowing books, artwork, and furnishings to express the personality of its occupants over time.
